Dupuytren’s Disease

Dupuytren’s disease is a hand deformity that occurs when the elastic tissue beneath the skin of the palm and fingers, known as the fascia, becomes thick and tight. This disease causes knots of tissue to form under the skin, which can lead to one or more fingers being pulled into a bent position.

People with Dupuytren’s disease experience difficulty in straightening their affected fingers. In most cases, one hand is usually affected more severely, although Dupuytren’s disease can occur in both hands.
